LR – Light Rigid Truck Licence

Obtaining your LR truck licence is necessary in order to drive small buses, such as a minibus for schools and nursing homes, community buses, motorhomes and courier trucks. It can also apply to those wishing to join the NSW Ambulance Service.An LR licence enables you to drive:

  • Small trucks with a gross vehicle mass (GVM) of up to 8 tonnes.
  • Buses seating more than 12 adults (including driver) with a GVM up to 8 tonnes
  • If you are towing a trailer, it must not weigh more than 9 tonnes GVM

REQUIREMENTS TO OBTAIN LR LICENCE

In order to apply for your LR licence, you must meet the following requirements.

  • You must have held a class C licence for at least 1 year. Learner licence is not included, but if you hold a green P licence this is acceptable.
  • Pass the RMS LR knowledge test
  • Pass an RMS eyesight test

Once you have fulfilled these requirements, you can contact Gru Driving School to book your Light Rigid Truck Licence training. Our truck driving courses are government approved and nationally recognised, and we assess you against RMS NSW criteria.

LIGHT RIGID TRAINING + ASSESSMENT

We aim to provide a quick and cost-effective training service, and we operate out of our high-quality training facility at Prestons.The training course has a duration of 1-day, and you will be taught how to drive a LR vehicle by one of our highly qualified instructors. At the end of your training, you should feel confident and ready to put your skills to the test with one of our assessors. Some students may require a bit more time to learn, and we are more than happy to accommodate this. We want to see you succeed, and we will make sure that you feel confident behind the wheel before submitting you for assessment.

During the assessment process, the assessor will take note of your driving. If you pass, you will receive a certificate of competency and be eligible to obtain a LR licence from the RMS.
