- Be at least 20 years of age
- Hold an unrestricted/unconditional licence issued in NSW
- Have held an unrestricted Australian driver licence for a total of at least twelve (12) months in the two (2) years immediately preceding the date of the application; and
- Have passed an examination or assessment, at a level determined by the Director-General, in medical fitness
You also need to satisfy that you:
- May lawfully work in Australia
- Have knowledge of the Act and Regulations relating to the operation of a bus
- Is of good repute and in all other respects a fit and proper person to be the driver of the vehicle concerned (your criminal record will be checked)
- Have sufficient responsibility to drive the vehicle concerned in accordance with law and custom
In order to obtain the Bus Driver Authority Licence, you will be required to undergo and pass a medical. You will also be subjected to a police check, and your driving history will be reviewed. You must also be able to communicate in English. If you have any concerns about any of this, please lodge your application with Transport for NSW before booking your BDA course with GRU Driving School.
If you have determined that you meet all the above criteria and would like to complete the training course, please contact GRU Driving School. Upon successful completion you will be provided with a “Proficiency” certificate. You can lodge this once all checks have been carried out by Transport for NSW and has advised you of the outcome.
GRU DRIVING SCHOOL – BUS DRIVER TRAINING AND ASSESSMENT
Once you have completed the bus driver authority training course, you can then proceed to lodge your documents with Transport for NSW or the Roads and Maritime Services (RMS).
- Driver Authority Application Form, (completed and signed);
- Medical Assessment Form (completed – following medical examination);
- photocopy of applicant’s driving licence;
- two recent colour photographs (65mm x 65mm);
- non-refundable cheque or money order payable to RMS;
- Proficiency Certificate supplied upon successful completion of the Bus Driver Authority training course
- Birth Certificate, Passport of Citizenship Certificate
Ministry of Transport processes the application and either:
- 1. Forwards the appropriate Driver Authority to the applicant; or
- 2. Advises the applicant that their application was unsuccessful.
